HSBC premier and business customers were invited by the Bank to experience some of Caravaggio’s acclaimed masterpieces, and other works attributed to him, at the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta.
Co-sponsored by the HSBC Cares For Malta’s Heritage Fund (HCMHF), the exhibition of eight priceless paintings depicting the divine element of the artist’s works, is organised by Heritage Malta to mark the Italian painter’s 400th anniversary arrival in Malta. The paintings were flown in from major collections and galleries around Europe and the United States.
HSBC clients walked through the impressive setting of Caravaggio: l’Immagine del Divino, stopping in awe at each of the genius’ work, admiring paintings such as St John the Baptist from the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica, Palazzo Corsini in Rome and Ecstasy of St Francis from the Museo Civico in Udine. Before their walkthrough, they were treated to a short descriptive talk on Caravaggio by the well-renowned Dr Philip Farrugia Randon.
Shaun Wallis, HSBC’s chief executive officer said: “We wanted to share this unique Maltese event with some of our customers.”
The exhibition is open every day from 9am to 7pm.
