Crackers: Hello everyone

Malta Independent Thursday, 15 November 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

This week’s issue of Crackers is mostly dedicated to your messages and contributions. Besides birthday messages and a thank you message, one of our young readers, Karl Cilia sent us a poem about his much-loved dog Sandy. Why don’t you share with us something interesting? We would be happy to have it published for you.

Have you ever heard of the Inuits or maybe the Lapps? Both are names for a group of people. Inuits are Eskimos who live on the coasts in the northern parts of North America and Siberia, while the Lapps are nomadic people who used to follow the reindeer herds of northern Scandinavia. Read more about the different types of people or groups in this week’s interesting article, Who are these people?

A number of activities are being planned for this week. It is important to pay a visit to the Book Fair, which is currently being held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. Also note that World Children’s Day is being celebrated in all McDonald’s restaurants next Saturday.

See you next Thursday

World Children’s Day at McDonald’s

Next Saturday 17 November, McDonald’s in Malta and Gozo will be organising a number of entertaining and fun activities in all its restaurants aimed at raising funds for the McDonald’s Eden Children’s Fund on the occasion of World Children’s Day.

Each McDonald’s restaurant will offer its own exclusive programme for kids. Among the many activities, kids can look forward to free pony rides, face painting, magic shows and juggler and stilt-walker exhibitions. They can also meet the cast of Nannu Spagu and the cast of Mini Bugz among others. Ronald McDonald will also be performing various shows throughout the day and he will be accompanied by Sunny – the Mascot of The Eden Foundation.

Detailed programmes of World Children’s Day activities are available at the respective McDonald’s restaurant.

By simply visiting their local McDonald’s restaurant on Saturday, 17 November, children have the opportunity to join in the McDonald’s effort to help children like themselves who are in need while spending a day filled with fun and entertainment.

I am happy

I used to roam the streets

and Sandy was my name

till I was found and brought

to play with Karl a game.

And so I lost my mother Mandy,

Karl bought me and took me home,

and so he became my true master.

Never again to roam.

From the moment he saw me

his heart leapt for joy

and ever since he cared for me,

to become like another toy.

We play hide and seek together

and walk the streets everyday

But our friendship will

surely last all the way.

This poem was sent to us by Karl Cilia. Karl is in 6A and attends Anthony Valletta Primary School Birkirkara.

Editor’s note: Thank you Karl for this sweet poem. I am sure Sandy is very happy to have you as a friend.
