This month marks the fifth anniversary since the launch of internet banking in Malta by Bank of Valletta.
It was 3 December 2002 when Bank of Valletta introduced what was considered as frontier technology in Malta by launching a real time, on-line, internet banking service backed by the BOV SecureKey that, from the outset, gave customers the best in terms of security by providing two factor authentication.
“Over the past five years, BOV Internet Banking has changed customers’ banking habits and attitudes and today, over one third of our customers are using internet banking and other 24x7 services,” said Victor Denaro, chief officer for information technology and multi-channel banking at Bank of Valletta. “This is not surprising given that internet banking has empowered our customers to such a high degree that, over time, it has revolutionised the way people conduct their banking transactions,” said Mr Denaro.
BOV internet banking is also an effective business banking platform thanks to its multi-user facility. This facility enables corporate customers to allow multiple registered users to operate the organisation’s accounts. The function has different operating levels ranging from “Viewing Only” to “Full Access”, with an optional dual authorisation feature that allows the convenience of having a non-signing officer keying-in a transaction at the office and any number of authorising officers “signing” the same transaction.
Apart from internet banking, BOV’s suite of 24x7 channels includes mobile banking, phone banking, customer service centre banking and the ATM and EPOS networks.
