The Employment and Training Corporation has recently been made aware of the 90,000th job vacancy. Since its establishment in 1990, 45,460 people were placed in a job by the ETC. In the past financial year there were 3,548 placements. These figures do not include newspaper vacancies which are also being promoted by ETC to job seekers and the public.

ETC offers a free service by which it informs job seekers directly by SMS or e-mail about the current job vacancies in the labour market. Those wishing to receive vacancy information through the automailer are to send an e-mail with their name, surname and e-mail address to [email protected]. Those looking for a job are also encouraged to use the freephone service on 8007 6500 to learn more about these job opportunities.

The ETC Job Centres in Valletta, Mosta, Vittoriosa and Victoria also offer updated information on current vacancies by providing vacancy details through the boards, as well as through user-friendly touch-screen computers. These computers are connected online to the local and European jobs database. The ETC website, www.etc.gov.mt, can also be accessed for updated information on local and European working opportunities. 200,000 hits are made on the vacancy search facility of the website each month.

The EURES Office in Malta, set up in May 2004, is also managed by the Employment and Training Corporation. The office has assisted thousands of persons interested in working in a European country. The EURES team, which is made up of a manager and six advisers, provides information and advice to workers and employers wishing to benefit from the principle of the free movement of persons. The ETC regularly collaborates with organisations in the private sector and with private employment agencies by organising recruitment drives to help fill vacant posts in the private sector.

Job fairs for vacancies in Malta and in Europe are organised from time to time and these are attended by hundreds of people. Foreign employers of renowned companies were brought to Malta on several occasions to recruit Maltese workers for their organisations.
