The GRTU, Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises, has written to the Prime Minister urging him to decide in favour of retailers and consumers on charges imposed by the banks on the use of debit and credit cards.

The call was made in the wake of a European Commission decision about the exaggerated fees credit cards firms imposed.

The GRTU said the government should no longer drag its feet on the issue. Other countries, such as Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, Poland, Australia, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, New Zealand and the USA had already decided, the letter said.
