Malta Independent Saturday, 22 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The underground emergency flourmill installed at Mistra in the 1950s is going to be opened for public viewing this month for a few days.

The mill, which had lain abandoned for 25 years, is the only one of six others which is in good working order, with all its machinery in place. It has been maintained by the voluntary organisation Fondazzjoni Wirt Industrijali for these last six years.

The mill will be open for public viewing for the first time between 26-30 December from 10am to 4pm. Entrance is free. Donation boxes provided by the Dar tal- Providenza will be placed inside the mill.

The flour mill entrance is situated on the main street at Triq Mistra (on the way to Mellieha), 100 meters down the road from the former Mistra Village Hotel tennis court. Parking is available near the fire brigade and the area nearby, with a two minute walk further down.
