The Malta Tourism Authority has announced the launch of the first in a network of webcams to be featured on its www.visitmalta.com website. The live image from the camera can be viewed at www.visitmalta.com/webcam
The camera is located on the rooftop of the Kordin grain terminal in Marsa. From this high vantage point, the camera offers panoramic views across Grand Harbour to the capital city, Valletta and its surrounding bastions and quays.
“This is the first of several webcams we plan to set up in various locations around the Maltese islands. The Grand Harbour was an obvious first choice, considering the spectacular views it provides, both during the day as well as at night. Other cameras will be installed in the coming months in locations which provide different glimpses of what Malta and Gozo have to offer,” said the director of Visitmalta at MTA, Michael Piscopo.
The MTA’s webcam on Grand Harbour is also part of the Earthcam global network of cameras, which includes top locations such as Times Square in New York and London’s Trafalgar Square. By being featured on the www. earthcam.com, Malta benefits from additional exposure for the destination and increased traffic via a link to the visitmalta.com homepage.
The project was coordinated by the Information Management Unit of the Tourism and Culture Ministry and implemented by Alberta Group, which is the Earthcam affiliate in Malta.
