More work must be done to enhance Mellieha's tourist identity in order to persuade more and more tourists to visit the village in summer but also in winter, Labour leader Alfred Sant said yesterday.

Touring the Mellieha commercial centre, Dr Sant praised the Labour-led local council. Had this council not pushed the government, he claimed, certain projects, including the Home for the Elderly, would most probably never have taken off.

He also announced that, following talks with the local council, the two projects with which a new Labour administration would help would include the building of a new library next to the school and the restoration of the palace at Marfa, which is seriously dilapidated, and turning it into a youth hostel.
