The police had received a phone call telling them that a man had just been assaulted at City Gate, Valletta around 1.30am.
After a search in Floriana, at the Mall Gardens the police apprehended a man whose features fitted with a description given by the alleged victim and eyewitnesses.
The man is currently helping the police in their investigation.
