Dr Vassallo was speaking during a political activity held in at the Sliema party office yesterday.

The AD chairman said: “Our slogan mentions change because AD can offer a change in mentality and the way politics are made. It offers something new in this stagnant scenario where the two main parties offer more of the same: pique politics and favours for those who finance them.”

He said mature people with an open mind will not for the propaganda of others which is based on fear and half-truths. “These people want a guarantee of politics which will serve the interests of the nation. It is only with AD in parliament that the country can make sure that whoever is Prime Minister will not only give lip service. We will ensure that the PN will have to consult, discuss and put all cards on the table like in all other mature democracies,” he said.

Dr Vassallo said that after the next election, when AD is in parliament, no party will be able to have absolute power to take advantage of. “In a coalition government, AD would ensure that whichever party is elected will not be able to lead with arrogance or with lack of respect towards the general public,” said Dr Vassallo.

He said that AD had managed to bring about better behaviour from the main political parties without being in parliament. “We need to see a government whereby people are judged on merit and performance. We need to make sure that people are not left behind simply because they have no political connections. We need to see judgment on performance, not political ties,” he said.

Dr Vassallo concluded: “A vote for the PN or the MLP will not bring about change. Those that want serious change, pluralism and a better democracy should vote for the Green Party.”
