The Dance Council – Malta is proud to present Dance Beyond – A pan-European Dance Meeting, which will be held on 1 and 2 March. This dance event will bring together different European dance cultures to participate in a grand performance at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta. Dance academies, students and teachers from Italy, Hungary, the United Kingdom and Malta will be presenting their different pedagogies in dance through a varied programme of disciplines and choreographies.

The evening will be dedicated to young dancers between 12 and 16 years of age. The guest European State Dance Academies and Ballet Schools participating this year are the Hungarian Dance Academy, La Scuola di Ballo del Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, and the London Contemporary Dance School. Malta’s best dance students from 15 local ballet schools will also take part in the event.

The Maltese students come from the following dance schools: Alison White Dance Studio, Brigitte Gauci Borda School of Ballet, Central Academy of Ballet, College of Jazz Dance, Creative Dance Studio, Dance Academy, Dance Conservatoire, Deborah Mc Namara School of Dance, Millroom Studio, Pauleen’s Dance Studio, St Michael Foundation for Education, The Dance Workshop, The School of Dance, YADA Dance Academy Gozo, and a guest appearance by dancers from the Pippa Gee Dance Studio. Peter Howitt is responsible for creating the concept for the cover art for Dance Beyond, as well as the lighting designer and artistic consultant for the performance.

Various workshops given by visiting teachers from the participating countries will provide a unique opportunity for Maltese dance students to experience intensive sessions with teachers from famous Academies in Europe. The Dance Council believes that international interaction is a vital element of development. It is also a precious tool for self enrichment and for the promotion and fostering of harmony through the shared love and dedication to the beauty of dance.

Dance Beyond is being held under the patronage of the Tourism and Culture Ministry, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, and the Ministry of Finance, who are also sponsoring the performances, together with our corporate sponsors, Air Malta, Island Hotels Group, Alitalia, the kind assistance of the Honorary Consul of Hungary to Malta, and the Italian Embassy, who have all contributed to making Dance Beyond possible.
