In the opening of Spring, Moviment Graffitti feels that the Maltese Government should immediately, and clearly, declare its position with regard to Spring Hunting.
Whist reiterating its position against all forms of hunting, Moviment Graffitti stated: “The government should declare, with immediate effect, that Spring hunting will no longer be permitted. One should remember that Spring Hunting is extremely harmful, both to particular bird species and to the general environment. It targets birds just before their breeding season therefore they are not given the time to reproduce, and this results in a direct threat to bird populations and the ecosystem.”
“The European Union has already made it very clear that it will no longer accept spring hunting in Malta. In all European Union countries, hunting in spring is illegal,” the movement said.
Therefore, Moviment Graffitti has urged the government to take a responsible and democratic stand on this issue. If the government really wants to make environmental-friendly policies it should immediately declare that Spring Hunting will no longer be permitted, or tolerated, in Malta.
