In a recital held at the prestigious ORF-Radiokulturhaus in Vienna, Maltese Soprano Lydia Caruana delighted the audience with her interpretation of a variety of works by Maltese and foreign composers. These included pieces by Maltese composers Charles Camilleri, Joseph Vella, Carmelo Pace, Nicolo Isouard and Girolamo Abos together with other numbers written by Gioachino Rossini, Franz Liszt, Maurice Ravel and Manuel de Falla among others.
Peter Bolech, former CEO at Malta International Airport, was the main promoter of the event and provided the audience with background information on the different pieces throughout the evening.
The Embassy of Malta in Vienna also provided support and promoted the recital. In a few words to the audience before the recital, Malta’s Ambassador to Austria, Christopher Grima described Lydia Caruana as one of Malta’s finest cultural representatives projecting the identity and cultural heritage of Malta around the world. The Ambassador also described the rich contribution of various Maltese composers to European classical music over the years, as demonstrated from the evening’s programme.
The recital, which was followed by a reception hosted by the Ambassador and Mrs Grima, was attended by a number of distinguished personalities including senior officials from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassador of Austria to Malta, Caroline Gudenus, EU Ambassadors based in Vienna and members of the Malta-Austria Friendship Society.
The recital by Lydia Caruana was recorded live and will be transmitted on ORF, Austrian National Radio next month.
