DanceSport At Skolasport offers different dance styles

Malta Independent Thursday, 19 February 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

KMS Skolasport, officially sponsored by Kellogg’s, is offering once again DanceSport for aspiring male and female dancers as one of its disciplines after a short break. DanceSport introduces the participants to different rhythms such as Latin American, Jazz, Hip-Hop and even Waltz and Quickstep.

Catherine Cassar, DanceSport coach at KMS Skolasport emphasised the need for more male students to enrol for the course as females outnumber males and this restricts certain dance routines that need to team up as couples such as for Latin and Ballroom dancing.

Classes are held in a fun way while students gain experience and health benefits. DanceSport provides students with a fitness programme where students learn simple dance routines, which develop their strength, ease, flexibility and a well balanced posture. It also helps improve their memory as they need to remember a sequence of steps as they switch from one step to the next in a few seconds.

Ms Catherine Cassar is pleased with the progress of the pupils. She said: “They have made a lot of progress in the last sessions. Their stamina level has increased and they can handle a whole session of movement.”

She said that former students learned to love dancing through KMS Skolasport and pursued the sport further. Some of them now train professionally and compete in dance competitions both locally and abroad.

Sport is essential in life and DanceSport provides mental relief and physical fitness. This is one of the prime objectives for which KMS Skolasport, organised by the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport is sponsored by Kellogg’s. Kellogg’s promotes good nutrition and physical exercise for a healthy well-being.

Sessions in DanceSport are held every Saturday morning between 9.30am and 11.00am at Cottonera Sports Complex.
