Alex Borg of Juventutis Domus Club, Zejtun won the third ranking tournament of the season organised by the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association when in front of a sizeable crowd at De Paule Band Club, Paola, he beat Duncan Bezzina of Hamrun Liberty Sports Club 5-3 in the final. Referee of the match was Emeric Ellul.
Bezzina won the first frame but Borg went 3-1 up at the mid-session interval after Bezzina missed an easy final black ball in the fourth frame. When play resumed, Bezzina made it 3-2 but Borg went two frames up again with three to play by winning the sixth helped by a break of 62. Though Bezzina won the seventh to stay in the match at 4-3, Borg won a tense eight on the black to win the match.
After the match, Joe Caruana Curran, President of the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association, presented the trophies to the two finalists.
Highest break of the tournament was compiled by Alex Borg who, in his last 16 match against Philip Ciantar, had a fine 134 clearance.
In the MBSA provisional ranking list, Alex Borg is leading with 3,450 points followed by Simon Zammit with 2,500 and Duncan Bezzina on 2,450 points.
