St Patrick were looking to gain three points against bottom club Senglea to continue consolidating their position at the top of the table. They were in for a nasty surprise.
However it was Senglea who took the lead on 15 minutes when Tarek managed to lob over Cassar after a goalmouth melee’. There was nothing much to report in the first half otherwise as the match was devoid of any scoring chances up to this point apart from a couple of shots well off target by St Patrick’s.
On 34 minutes Simon Zerafa had his shot saved by Cassar whilst on 39 minutes, Briffa was given his marching orders with a straight red after having said some words to the referee. Senglea could have doubled on the stroke of halftime but Scerri shot well over the bar after a pass by Mbong.
Senglea doubled the score on 54 minutes when Zampa released Felice who smashed past Cassar from close range. St Patrick’s came close to reducing the deficit on 62 minutes but Anizoba’s shot was well saved by Attard. Farrugia had a good shot that went just wide on 64 minutes.
Senglea made the points certain on 77 minutes when Tarek scored from close range to make it 3-0. This gave some respite to Senglea although they were still mired at the bottom of the table.
