Mark Cutajar is the new Sports Director of the Malta Olympic Committee after beating other contestant John Zammit in yesterday’s MOC Council elections.

Cutajar polled a total of 57 votes against the 12 of Zammit.

He succeeds Pippo Psaila, who resigned from the post a few weeks ago after a row with the MOC administration.

A teacher by profession, Mark Cutajar is well known in the sports media as Head of Sport of One TV. He is also presenter of the popular Monday evening programme L-Argument.

He has also worked within the Amateur Swimming Association as president of Marsaxlokk and also served on the football committee of the same locality before being elected to the post of Director within the MOC last November.

Cutajar is eager to see the level of sports improve in Malta, aware that there is still a lot to be done to have our athletes fully prepared for the forthcoming Games for European Small States to be held in Cyprus, the Mediterranean Games in Pescara and the Friendship Games in Trapani later this year.

The new Sports Director intends to set up a Technical Commission which shouldwork efficiently in the interest of local sport.

He also wants to do his best to see the MOC work hand in hand with the Maltese Council of Sport.

Cutajar believes that there is need to organsie more seminars as these produce ideas which might be lacking within some of the associations’ ranks.
