Malta Independent Thursday, 5 March 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Malta Shooting Sport Federation organised a trap competition on 125 clays at the weekend. This was the last competition before the Trap selection shoots – starting on 14 March – for the Games for the Small States of Europe.

The athletes shot in favourable weather conditions on Saturday where they shot their first 75 clays. They were not so lucky on Sunday when they turned to shoot their last 50 clays, due to the high southerly winds and the dark visibility.

The best six shooters qualified for the final of 25 clays and with only one cartridge for each bird.

Nicky Carabott was the overall winner with 112 (ISSF MQS) +19=131, Second was Ryan Bugeja on 127 while Frans Pace placed third with 126. Stanley Cardona was fourth with 123, Noel Attard fifth on 122 and Eugenio Borg sixth with 118

George Mifsud was the only shooter to manage a straight of 25 out of 25 during this competition.

The next competition to be organised by The Malta Shooting Sport Federation will be a Selection Skeet on 125 clays on 18 and 19 March. The next Selection in Double Trap will be held on 150 clays on 19 March.
