St George’s FC have lodged another protest with the MFA against the result of last Wednesday’s Bank of Valletta First Division match replay against Vittoriosa Stars.
The latter beat the Cospicua side 2-1 to earn the three points, but the saga is not yet over.
The Saints have based their protest on the ineligibility of Vittoriosa Stars player Ndubisi Chukunyere.
The latter had been banned for two matches by the MFA Disciplinary Commissioner on 17 December and had to miss matches against St George’s and Senglea. He did not play in those two matches, but the Saints are claiming that since the game against St George’s had later on been declared null and a replay was ordered, Chukunyere should have served the ban in Wednesday’s match.
In actual fact, the Stars made use of his services as a substitute in Wednesday’s match.
The original clash had ended in a 3-2 win for Vittoriosa but soon after, two St George’s players, Andrea Gatt and Lawrence Mizzi were arraigned in Court on corruption charges. They both pleaded guilty and were fined and handed a suspended sentence. The MFA had acted immediately and had also suspended them indefinitely until its own investigation comes to an end. They can both be suspended for life.
Vittoriosa Stars vice president Manwel Ancilleri is also under investigation with regards to that match. At present his Court case has not yet ended, but the MFA has also suspended him temporarily from all football activities.
