Women’s Football: Mgarr keep play-off hopes alive

Gozo – Tarxien R. 15-0

Gozo again registered a big win, this time beating Tarxien Rainbows 15-0. As the result clearly shows Gozo dominated throughout the 90 minutes. They led 9-0 at the interval.

Their goals were scored by Emma Xuereb (5), Felicienne Mercieca (2), Stephanie Debono (2), Michelle Pace (2) and Joselen Gafa’ (2). Rita Azzopardi and Melanie Bajada score one each.

Mgarr Utd. – Hamrun S. 2-1

Mgarr Utd kept their hopes for the play-offs alive when they defeated Hamrun Spartans 2-1.

Mgarr started on the offence from the first minute and had several goal attempts but failed to score. Hamrun defended well and on the 25th minute, against all odds, they went in front. They were awarded a free kick outside the Mgarr area, Tanya Vella took charge and with a fine shot hit home. Mgarr tried to level the score but the Hamurun defence was well organised.

After the break, Mgarr showed more determination and after a fine shot by Mamo finished wide, on the 51st minute they managed to score an equaliser. After a fine set piece the ball went to Nicky Kelly who netted.

This goal gave Mgarr more confidence and on the 74th minute they grabbed the winner. Abigail Camilleri won a loose ball in the Hamrun defence and with a strong shot netted the ball in the corner of the net.

Hamrun tried to make a reaction but the Mgarr girls controlled well and managed to earn a very important three points.

Mosta – Melita 3-0

Mosta beat Melita 3-0, Mosta’s goal were scored by Rebecca D’Agostino (2) and Dorianne Theuma.

St Venera YB – Marsa 4-0

St Venera Yellow Blues were a better side on the pitch, although Marsa played a good tactical game. Yellow Blues opened the score by Yanika Debono on 15 minutes.

Three minutes later again it was Debono who doubled for the Blues. On the 25th minute, St Venera came close to score their second when a fine shot by Daniela Farrugia hit the crossbar.

After the break St Venera were in control, and ten minutes from the end, Therese Briffa made it 3-0. On the 85th minute Yanika Debono notched her hat-trick after beating nearly all the Mosta defence, scoring with a diagonal shot.
