Cricket: Krishna Win the winter league

Over the past week Krishna C.C won the cricket winter league and Marsa C.C took on Whittingtom C.C from the United Kingdom.

On Saturday playing against the new touring team, Marsa won the toss and batted first. Tim Edwards and Chris Naudi opened the batting. Edwards was first to go scoring six runs before being caught.

Naudi went on to make 34 runs from 34 balls faced. Angelo Spiteri scored 14 runs, Anthony Roberts 16 runs and Ronnie Sacco 21 runs. Towards the end of the innings Andy Lenard scored 42 runs including four runs, Malcolm Crabbe scored 49 runs including eight fours and Dave Newton chipped in with 17 runs not out. The Marsa team totalled 234 runs from their allotted overs. For Whittington C.C M.Horner and A.Clamp were the main wicket takers with two wicket each.

In reply the visitors totalled 192 all out losing by 42 runs. Their run chase began quite well with T. Tanner scoring 49 runs and S. Wright scoring 30 runs. There were also good performances from J. Evans, 22 runs, C. Hilyer 25 runs and S. McNish 32 runs.

For the Marsa team, three bowlers, Andy Lenard, Ronnie Sacco and Malcolm Crabbe all took three wickets each. Marsa have now won all five encounters against touring teams.

Last Thursday the Krishna team played two games to end the winter league. In the first game they played against Melita C.C.

Melita batted first with Joy Ghoseroy top scoring with 53 runs from a total of 120 runs. Nowell Khosla was the main wicket taker for the Krishna team with three wickets.

In reply the Krishna team made the runs in the 20 second over with Andy Naudi top scoring with 51 runs not out and John Grima scoring 41 runs not out. With this win the Krishna team won the league and the second winter league in a row.

In the second game Krishna played against Marsa. The latter batted first and scored a mammoth 185 runs from their allotted overs. Mike Caruana top scored with 50 runs and Javed scored 40 runs.

For Krishna Andy Naudi took two wickets. In reply the Krishna team were bowled out for 82 runs with Faraaz Bhatti top scoring with 25 runs. Marsa won the game.

The final standings for the league – Krishna 29 points, Marsa 24 points and Melita 16 points.

The coming weekend the Marsa team have two new touring teams to play against.

On Saturday there will be a 40 over game against Ampthill Town C.C at 10.30am. On Sunday there will be three 20 over games - Marsa vs Redbourn C.C, Redbourn C.C vs Ampthill Town C.C, Marsa vs Ampthill Town C.C games starting at 9am.

On Monday Marsa play Redbourn C.C in a 40 over game starting at 10.30am.

On Saturday the nursery/academy will be from 9.30am till 11.30am.
