FIMBank’s female football team (above) comprising of Claire Sciberras, Jackie Abdilla, Fallon Sammut, Oriana Bedingfield, Leona Tabone, Julia Busutil and Ingrid Vassallo on their own initiative took part and won the women’s football tournament organised by Air Malta.

It was held earlier this month at Melita Ground in Pembroke.

This tournament has been organised by the Air Malta sports committee on an annual basis for the last 25 years. It invites companies and institutions - locally and internationally - to send their football players to Malta to compete in friendly games that foster friendship and sportsmanship.

Following popular demand by football enthusiasts, three female teams namely SAS, Air Malta and FIMBank joined nine male teams from Malta, Italy and Libya to participate and compete in the games.

The 5-a-side tournament was divided in three rounds, with three games of 30 minutes each held daily. FIMBank female players scored 7-0, 2-0, 2-1, 4-0 and 2-2, thus earning maximum points from the three matches and ultimately claiming the trophy.

FIMBank team members, Claire Sciberras and Leona Tabone were awarded “Best Player” and “Best Goaler” trophies, respectively.

Margrith Lutschg, President of FIMBank congratulated the team members stating that she was impressed by the initiative of the staff to participate in the tournament. She thanked the team for holding the FIMBank flag high and stressed on the benefits of sports and physical activities.
