David Anastasi, Ivan Mallia and Kevin Gauci Maistre were all smiles after they all claimed top spots in their respective IRC classes in the 3rd edition of the Global Capital Gozo Weekend Regatta organised by the Royal Malta Yacht Club.

Both Strait Dealer (J-125) and Wind Driven (Dehler 34) claimed three bullets apiece while Kevin Gauci Maistre on board Sezel got two tops finishers to celebrate his first ever regatta as a skipper in keelboat racing. Kevin did battle against David Cremona on board Breezer (Oceanis 473) and Anthony Camilleri Bavaria 47) on board Windward, both very worth opponents.

Ivan Mallia was also a very happy Dehler owner. “We sailed very well, made very few mistakes and I think the result shows just that.” All credit must got to the crew for a great weekend of sailing”

The Gatt Floridia brothers on Otra Vez (First 36.7) claimed second in class behind Wind Driven followed by Godwin Zammit (Sun Fast 40) on board Inspiration in a solid third place. “We sailed pretty well and there are lots of good things about this team, but we now have a checklist that needs to be seen to before our next race” Edward Gatt Floridia said, confident of an even better showing in the next event.

In class two, Kerisma (Ker 11.3) claimed a very close second place behind Strait Dealer. Elusive 2.(First 45) followed in third place in class.

During the Prize-Giving ceremony, Mr Ian Zammit, representing GlobalCapital, congratulated the competitors for their victories and the RMYC Committee for organising an outstanding weekend regatta and also committed their sponsorship to the RMYC for next year’s race.

Commodore Georges Bonello DuPuis thanked Global Capital for the third edition of this very popular season opener regatta. He also thanked the race committee, helpers and all the competitors who participated in this event.

The club’s next race will be the International Yacht Paint Double handed Round Malta race which will be held on Saturday 25 April.
