GO has just added on a new local channel to its FREE+ line-up – Calypso Music Television. The new channel was added at no extra cost to the FREE+ TV package, which sells at €2.33 for only a month. The station is also available for free as part of the SILVER+ and GOLD+ packages.

The Broadcasting Authority recently announced that it granted a license to Calypso Media Communications Ltd to provide a digital terrestrial television broadcasting service. Calypso Music Television is broadcasting exclusively on the GO TV network, and hence will be available to all GO customers on channel number 107. The new TV station rides on the popularity of the already established Calypso Radio station.

The new station is offering a number of educational, cultural and entertaining programmes, with local and international music being the principle element.

Calypso Music Television commences its broadcasts with the Calypso Breakfast Show aired daily between 8 and 11am, hosted by Twanny Scerri and Eleanor Cassar, respectively. The show contains a number of informative slots, varying from current affairs, cultural events, sport activities, news headlines, music videos and much more.

Calypso Music Television will soon release its full programme schedule, one of which will be Calypso’s Total Request – a show which will be presented from a made-up radio studio – a first to be on Maltese TV. During the show, viewers may call-in or send SMS’s to the presenter requesting their favourite modern music video.

During the week, Calypso Music Television airs a number of different shows aimed for family viewing. Every Wednesday, Gertrude Borg Marks presents Calypso’s prime time programme – Karattri. The presenter gives viewers an insight look at Maltese theatre and drama where in each show, the viewer has the opportunity to meet one of Malta’s famous and loved actors from both the film, theatre and media fields. Karattri features a number of clips from movies produced locally and other theatre material.

Another show which goes on air every Thursday is Calypso’s Talk Time, presented by Angela Agius. The presenter together with the guests discuss different subjects from all aspects of life. Viewers may also participate via SMS with any questions or queries about the subject discussed.

A new programme which gives local singers and bands an opportunity to perform a two-hour live session is held every Friday, during the prime time programme – Calypso Jams.

A show with a difference and a first for local TV is Vibes Weekend hosted by Malta’s original Vibes DJ – Charles Fenech. This show focuses mainly on 80’s pop music videos and serves as a commemoration to what was once the famous Vibes Discothèque.
