Brad Hindle Deguara has clinched Malta’s top spot after defeating former champion and Malta’s number 1 Mike Fiteni. Brad world ranked professional (64 in PSA Rankings) will be playing for Malta in future competitions.
The Ladies Open event was won by Theresa Brousson (Camilleri) who beat Malta’s number 3 player Johanna Rizzo three sets to one. The Junior under 13 Open was won by the up and coming Ryan Rizzo who forms part of Malta Squash elite Junior team.
Colette Sultana, ranked 40 in under 15 Juniors in Europe, won the Under 15 Open with Jean Bernard Balzan being the runner up.
A record of 75 participants took part in this year’s open which included 23 Juniors.
A and B categories where held in all competitions so advanced top players and intermediates could enjoy this 4 day tournament which was a massive success for Maltya Squash and squash in Malta in general.
The A Plate was won by veteran Arthur Castillo back to playing squash after a long absence beating Nigel Dunkerley 3-2 in a hard fought match where Nigel was winning 2-0.
The Men’s B Tournament final was between Geoff Brousson who was beaten by Dr. Victor Calvagna 3-1.
The B plate was won by Mark Wright against Danish player Christer Guftaffson.
The Ladies Plate winner was Dr. Cecilia Farrugia who beat evergreen Liz Said.
The Ladies B tournament was won by Sarah De Cesare beating Christina King 3-0.
Ladies B plate winner was Junior Clara Castillo who soundly beat Denise Vassallo 3-0.
In the other junior B sections the Under 15 winner was John Montebello and runner up was Nicole Spiteri. B Under 13 winner was Benji Balzan with close second place going to Sam Bonello Ghio.
