Court: Nationalist MP Sues Labour media

Malta Independent Friday, 14 August 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Nationalist MP Philip Mifsud has filed two libel suits against Labour Party media Kulhadd and One TV.

Mr Mifsud claimed that the contents of an article published in weekly newspaper Kulhadd on Sunday, 9 August, and a news item broadcast on 10 August, consist of false allegations.

The article and news item were about the former PN president’s (Victor Scerri) controversial Bahrija permit.

The news stories claimed that Mr Mifsud was a member of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority’s Development Control Commission (DCC), and had a say in the Bahrija permit decision.

The news stories claimed that it was not Mr Mifsud’s only case that constituted a blatant breach of ethics.

The Nationalist MP claimed that the news stories were defamatory and he is holding the editor of Kulhadd, Felix Agius, and the head of news of One TV, Glenn Beddingfield, responsible for damages.
