Fgura-Naxxar L 0-2

The first period proved to be a very balanced affair with both sets of defenders dominating the proceedings.

After 20 minutes Naxxar’s Andrew Catania missed a sitter hitting the ball badly with an open goal.

Four minutes later Naxxar’s custodian Bjorn Attard dived to his right to stop a shot by Fgura’s striker Lydon Vella. Naxxar responded through Kevin Fenech whose strong shot was well saved by Renald Attard.

Three minutes before the break, Naxxar opened the score through a close-range shot by Darren Falzon from a cross by Andrea Farrugia.

(Attard win 5-4 on penalties)

Attard were unlucky early on when a Mark Cremona header hit the upright with the same player again going close on six minutes as his shot finished just wide.

At the other end, Attard were again very close through attempts by Gwyn Vassallo and Clive Lanzon and just before the change of ends Mtarfa were denied by Spiteri off a headed attempt by Ryan Zammit.

The second period remained a balanced affair with Attard going close through Josef Axisa and Kurt Zahra.

Mtarfa wasted a clear opportunity through Giorgio Cumbo and the same player hit the post on another occasion.

In the 27th minute Zejtun took the lead through an excellent shot by Gary Busuttil following a good move between Darren Vella and Edward Azzopardi.

Gudja’s tame reaction was well controlled by their more experienced opponents.

Zejtun replied through dangerous attempts by Gary Busuttil and Charlo Magro. Gudja were twice denied by Grech off shots by Jeffrey Mallia and John Schembri.
