Six swimmers from the Vodafone Malta Foundation-sponsored Special Olympics Malta have been selected to travel to Spain, Palma de Mallorca for the European Championships to be held between 14 and 19 October. Thirty five countries from Europe will be participating in this Aquatic Championship organised by Special Olympics Spain.

Alexia Wetz, Maria Wetz, Charmaine Mifsud, John Paul Fenech, Nathaniel Grasso and Ivan Mangion will be swimming to win a medal for Malta. Under the supervision of coach Naomi Sultana Micallef and assistant Elaine Bonnici, these athletes have been training everyday for the last six months to reach their best and be prepared for the competition.

Special Olympics Malta provides training to all athletes in various sports disciplines and also gives an opportunity to these athletes to hold the Maltese flag during competitions overseas. Training for all athletes within Special Olympics Organisation is held twice weekly all year round and thus prepare each and every athlete in the best possible way.
