Malta Independent Sunday, 18 October 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

After the qualification round and also the second round of the 12 Malta Senior Open Championships at the Eden SuperBowl, Doris Camilleri (Champion in 2004) has made the penultimate round robin stage and is the only Maltese bowler remaining in male and female divisions.

Camilleri qualified from Round 1 in ninth place after 12 games, after which the top twelve ladies played a further four games. She wavered between 8th and 9th during the series, and the fourth game proved to be a battle with Inger Petersson from Sweden for the eighth and final spot in the Round Robin.

The game started with Doris trailing the Swede by eight pins after three, but then Doris' 203 against Petersson's gross 179 meant she clinched the final spot in the next round by just 20 pins.

This morning sees the top eight bowlers from each of the male and female divisions compete in the 7-game Round Robins, with the top four men and ladies after that stage playing in stepladder finals to decide the 2009 Malta Senior Open champions.
