Football – UEFA U-19 Mini tournament

Malta suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against the Czech Republic in the UEFA Championship Group 10 mini-tournament at the Centenary Stadium yesterday.

The Czechs scored all their goals in the first half to coast through comfortably for their second win in as many matches. They had earlier defeated Cyprus 3-1 in their opening match.

The Maltese were at sixes and sevens in the first half as the Czechs dominated from start to finish, scoring at regular intervals.

Ladislav Krejci opened the scoring after just eight minutes and from then on, they did not look back, adding further goals through Putz (2) and Folprecht before the interval whistle.

In the second half, there were no further goals as the Maltese controlled their opponents better.

D. Balzan, Y. Cauchi, I. Grech, K. Fedele, E. Cauchi, Y. Camilleri, S. Pisani, R. Muscat, L. Micallef, T. Caruana, M. Tabone. Substitutes: Q. Bregman, C. Gauci, M. Gauci.In another match yesterday, the Netherlands also secured a second consecutive win as they beat Cyprus 5-1.

On Tuesday, the Czech Rep.-Netherlands match will determine the winner of the Group, while that betweren Malta and Cyprus will decide who finishes third.
