Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club will be taking part in two very important events this weekend – The President’s Fun Run for Charity and the Commonwealth Games 2010 Queen’s Baton Relay.
Club members will be meeting at the old Birkirkara Railway Station (now the bus terminus) at 9.45 a.m. accompanied by the Birkirkara Mayor Mr Michael Fenech Adami and other Council members to join the President’s Fun Run for Charity that will be starting from the San Anton Palace a couple of kilometres up the road. The Run will head towards St Venera, Hamrun, Blata l-Bajda, Floriana to finish at the President’s Palace in Valletta.
Other club members will than meet near the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Floriana at 11.15am (some of them barely finishing the Run) to prepare themselves for a swim across Marsamxett Harbour towards the Sliema Waterpolo Pitch, accompanying the Queen’s Baton on its Relay across the Commonwealth on the occasion of the Commonwealth Games being held in India in 2010.
The Malta Olympic Committee is patronising this event and representatives from the host country will be attending with a crew of journalists.
Transport will be provided from both venues.
