The Faculty of Arts, in collaboration with the British Council’s Edinburgh Bookcase, is proud to announce a public reading of The Wrecking Light (Picador, 2010) by the award-winning poet Robin Robertson.

The reading will take place tomorrow at 6.30pm at the Aula Magna, Foundation of International Studies, Old University, St Paul’s Street, Valletta.

Robin Robertson is the author of four collections of poetry: A Painted Field (1997), winner of the 1997 Forward Poetry Prize (Best First Collection), the Aldeburgh Poetry Festival Prize and the Saltire Society Scottish First Book of the Year Award; Slow Air (2002); Swithering (2006); and The Wrecking Light (2010).

He is also the editor of Mortification: Writers’ Stories of their Public Shame (2003). In 2004, he was named by the Poetry Book Society as one of the Next Generation poets and received the E. M. Forster Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Robin Robertson’s third poetry collection, Swithering, was shortlisted for the 2005 T. S. Eliot Prize and won the 2006 Forward Poetry Prize (Best Poetry Collection of the Year). His translation of Euripides’ Medea was published in 2008, and in 2009, his poem, At Roane Head, won the Forward Poetry Prize (Best Single Poem). This poem is included in his most recent collection, The Wrecking Light.

Robin Robertson is the first poet to win Britain’s Forward Prize in all three categories: Best First Collection (A Painted Field), Best Collection (Swithering) and Best Single Poem (At Roane Head, 2008).

A limited number of books by Robin Robertson, who will participate in a book-signing session at the end of the evening, will be available at the venue.

There will be refreshments after the reading, which will provide the opportunity to meet the poet over a glass of wine. The general public is cordially welcome.
