Rugby Pitch inaugurated in Birkirkara

Malta Independent Monday, 26 July 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Birkirkara local council has regenerated the abandoned John Borg garden and turned it into a small family park with sports facilities, including a rugby training ground.

The facilities include artificial turf, which will be used for rugby training, basketball courts, an outdoor gym and a playing field for children. The Birkirkara Alligators Rugby Football Club will be using the rugby ground. This will be the first Maltese rugby football club with its own training facilities, which include a clubhouse, the latest-generation synthetic pitch, an outdoor gym and showering facilities. Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi inaugurated the facilities while Birkirkara mayor Michael Fenech Adami, alongside the president of the Malta Football Rugby Union, Martin Galea, hosted the opening night. The government said this was another project in a string of government initiatives to return public land to the Maltese communities.  Similar projects will be developed in Marsascala and Qui Si Sana, Sliema.
