Human Trafficking arrests

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against six persons in connection with six cases involving the human trafficking of third country nationals, Justice Minister Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici told Anthony Agius Decelis.

The persons being trafficked were from Somalia, Iran, Nigeria, Sudan, Ivory Coast, Togo, Mali, Burkina Faso, India and Guinea.

In the years from 2005 to 2008 the police caught and initiated proceedings against 38 persons on human trafficking charges. The people being trafficked were from Malta, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan, Algeria, Tunisia, Romania and Libya. Some of the charges also reflected illegal immigration for prostitution.
