Prime Minister Robert Abela visited the Ħal Far Groupage Complex on Thursday alongside the Association of Groupage Operators. While going around the complex of large containers, the Prime Minister met several workers and owners of logistics companies.

During this visit, the Prime Minister explained that the government recognises the “crucial role” this facility plays to the logistics chain and in the development of trade of commerce in Malta.

“This complex reflects our ambition as a government to give more strength to Maltese operators so that they can be an integral part of a global market,” Prime Minister Abela said.

The Prime Minister mentioned that Malta is an important voice in various fora which speaks favourably about SMEs – businesses which it considers to be the backbone of the country’s economy.

During this visit, the Prime Minister also met Customs workers inside their offices.

Throughout this visit, Abela was accompanied by the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, Chris Bonett.

This Ħal Far Complex acts as a centralised space for small quantities of consignments arriving in Malta from various countries. This space enables consignments to be collected and distributed more efficiently and also helps SMEs that do not make use of full containers by offering more affordable alternatives.

This service keeps several containers from being transported across the country’s roads, thus reducing traffic. This Complex also plays a role in facilitating and speeding up the Customs process, which in turn boosts the competitiveness of Maltese businesses in global markets.
