Internationally acclaimed British painter Ben Maile (b. 1922) will return for his second exhibition in Malta due to popular demand, presenting a selection of pen and ink drawings, watercolours, and oils in his own semi-impressionist style using oils on canvas.
Ben’s first solo art exhibition was held in London in 1959, to be then followed by a repeated annual appearance in the ‘Top Ten Artists of the Year’ poll held by the Fine Art Trade Guild during the 1960s. His ‘collectable’ reputation started to soar with his work being acquired by H.M. Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the British Royal family. Ben built up his reputation during the 1960s and 1970s and is particularly known for his military paintings and fondly remembered for his involvement with the reclamation of the Old Tudor warship that sank in 1545, The Mary Rose, when his paintings of the ship and its recovery brought him in to close contact with H.R.H. Prince Charles having acquired the original painting The Mary Rose 1545 for his own collection. His work is collected around the world and features in the collections of the Royal family, prime ministers, a US president, a sultan, international corporations in commerce and industry and also other keen collectors such as Spike Milligan.
The exhibition will take place at Palazzo Parisio, Naxxar from 15 November until 4 December.
