Malta Independent Monday, 1 August 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

For the second year running, Qormi Hockey Club has shown its superiority in the local Hockey scene. This year is going to be a memorable year for the Club, not only for the success achieved on the pitch but also for the fact that this year it will be celebrating its 40th anniversary.

After winning the League title last year, Qormi HC repeated the success this year as well and now counts a total of five league titles. Apart from winning the league, the senior team won another two competitions by claiming the Challenge Cup and the Super Cup. Qormi HC’s second team has won the Reserves League and has been doing so for the last three years.

In the junior categories, Qormi HC’s teams dominated proceedings once again by topping the league in all 3 sections. The Under 16, Under 14 and Under 12 teams have all won the League title in their category and have also been doing so for the last 3 years. All in all, Qormi Hockey Club has won seven out of eight competitions organised by the Hockey Association of Malta.

Every year the Club must work hard to build on its successes. This year, the club’s nursery with the help of the Qormi Local council, will take part in an international tournament in Slovenia so that the local players can further improve their skills.

The senior team will once again take part in European competitions where it has already featured twice in the past getting good results on both occasions. At present, a tournament to commemorate the Club’s 40th anniversary is currently underway at the Qormi Hockey Complex. Six local teams are participating in a six-a-side tournament to celebrate this milestone.
