Buġibba Water park to open on 23 June

Malta Independent Saturday, 2 June 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

A new water park in Buġibba will be officially opened by the Prime Minister on 23 June, and will include 17 attractions catering for different ages from toddlers to adolescents. Attractions include loops, water umbrellas and water cannons which will be spread over an area of 800 square metres. Located by the sea, this park is on the same site which was previously used to host bumping cars and several other attractions during the summer months.

The Minister for Resources and Rural Affairs George Pullicino made this announcement when he paid a visit to the park yesterday morning. Work on this project costing €600,000 is now in the finishing touches. Admission for the park which can simultaneously accommodate up to 50 children will be free, and it will be divided in three different sections according to age and height. Parents will not be allowed to join the children while using the facilities except for the toddlers’ area. Although there is no time limit, during peak hours children will be allowed for up to 20 minutes to accommodate the highest possible number of children. The park will open daily from 10am to 7pm from June till the end of September. A closed circuit camera system will be installed while five attendants will be present throughout the day to monitor the children and manage the facility better.

George Pullicino described this new park as an innovative form of entertainment for children, building on the success of the water attractions in the Adventure Park in Ta’ Qali and the highly popular fountain in St George’s Square in Valletta. Water will be topped up continually from the mains system and stored in two large reservoirs located in the pump room adjacent to the park which can hold up to 20 cubic metres. Measures will be taken to ensure that water will be clean and poses no health hazards. These include filtration, the use of chlorine, as well as UV sterilisation.

George Pullicino said that following the opening of this park, children can look forward to another attraction opening soon which is the petting farm in Ta’ Qali.
