Klabb Kotba Maltin has launched an important book on Maltese drama. The book, entitled Joseph Vella Bondin Drammaturgu is written by Prof. Charles Briffa and discusses one of the most important dramatists of contemporary Maltese drama.

Prof. Briffa teaches Literature and Translation at the University of Malta. He is a literary critic and writes extensively on the aesthetic propensities of Maltese Literature. His research centres mainly on psychostylistic analysis, applying recent literary theory to a work. He looks at his literary studies as exercises in mediation (helping readers to understand and appreciate the potentialities of contemporary Maltese literature) as he interprets a literary work as an amalgamation of humanity and creativity. It is this unique method that makes his review of Joseph Vella Bondin’s dramatic writings an outstanding contribution to Maltese dramaturgy.

Joseph Vella Bondin’s profile in the field of drama has been overshadowed by his groundbreaking research in Maltese musicology and this has unfortunately led to a lack of public appreciation of his important and inventive contribution to Maltese drama. Yet his dramatic works have won a host of important national literary prizes making him one of the most honoured writers in the field of local literature. Prof. Briffa’s impressive new study is bound to lead to a proper national evaluation of his varied achievements.
