Gozo Dive centre confirms its commitment to invest profits back into ocean protection

Malta Independent Sunday, 2 September 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

By becoming 100% Aware, the first and only dive centre in Malta and Gozo to do so, Bubbles Dive Centre, Marsalforn makes a donation on behalf of every student who passes a diving course with them towards ocean protection. The 100% Aware programme is promoted worldwide by Padi’s Project Aware organisation, which focuses on underwater conservation.

“When we started Bubbles Dive Centre last year we made a public pledge that we would invest a per cent of our profits back into ocean protection and marine conservation,” said David Hayler-Montague, director of Diving. “This is just one of those methods by which we will do that and at the same time help to put Malta and Gozo on the map as a responsible dive destination taking action to protect its underwater environment.”

As dive professionals it is easy to promote the fantastic diving in Malta and Gozo but we all also have a responsibility to look after the sea and marine life,” said Donna Hayler-Montague, owner of Bubbles Dive Centre, “after all less than 1% of the ocean is protected worldwide. It’s easy to talk about making a difference but its only actions that count and a healthy sea is crucial to the dive industry and tourism here.”
