Milkins beats Robertson in snooker world championships

Malta Independent Thursday, 25 April 2013, 23:59 Last update: about 12 years ago

Robert Milkins held his nerve to beat Australia's 2010 champion and world number two Neil Robertson 10-8 in the first round of the World Championship.

The Englishman, ranked 19 in the world, edged a scrappy encounter by potting a tough brown at 8-8 and then making a break of 51 at 9-8.

Robertson had led 5-2, having made a tournament-high 143 break on Wednesday, but the errors crept in on Thursday.

Gloucester's Milkins, 37, goes on to face Ricky Walden in round two.

Elsewhere in Wednesday's afternoon session, Shaun Murphy took a commanding 6-2 lead over Graeme Dott in the first of the second-round matches.
