The Embassy of Spain, in collaboration with St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity and the support of Middlesea Insurance plc, is presenting the exhibition Exploring Abstract Territories, of Spanish artist José Manuel Ciria.

The Ambassador of Spain, H. E. Felipe de la Morena, officially opened the exhibition on 17 May in the presence of the artist.

José Manuel Ciria is one of the most stunning artists in the contemporary art scene. His first solo exhibition at the Ferriére Gallery in Paris in 1984 was the first of many others which have lead Ciria to a wide international recognition through many awards and solo exhibitions.

For this his first exhibition in Malta, curated by Eman Grima, José Manuel Ciria is featuring some of his most interesting paintings, presenting three different phases of his work: Masks of Glance, La Guardia Place and Abstract Memory. But this exhibition is above all an invitation to explore new territories of creativity with an original visual and conceptual language beyond abstraction.

José Manuel Ciria’s exhibition in Malta takes place at a moment when the Museum of Modern Art of New York is preparing the world premiere of a film dedicated to the Spanish artist, Ciria pronounced Thiria.

The exhibition will remain open until 30 June.
