Comical sketch Mejd in Malta will return on TV screens next January after it was scrapped from TVM’s schedule after just one episode. No explanation was given and fans of the show were left wondering why it had stopped abruptly.

The programme was directed by TVM Head of Production Unit Frederick Testa, who also had an acting role. Other actors included Gordon Bonello and Rodney Gauci, of George and Pawlu fame.

The show premiered on 6 October, but only one episode was aired. According to Mr Testa, the programme was stopped because of “technical reasons”. However, sources insisted that the decision to stop the show had been taken by TVM’s head of programmes because of its content.

The Malta Independent is informed that the script is being rewritten for the January launch, but this paper could not confirm if the change in content was requested by PBS officials.

According to our sources, Mr Testa will not be directing or acting in the show. Mr Testa confirmed that the show would resume in January but did not say whether he will be personally involved.

Frederick Testa appeared on PL billboards during the electoral campaign and also featured in the music video of Taghna Lkoll. He was tipped to be head of drama, but the role given to him was actually head of the production unit. Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia had told Parliament that Mr Testa was engaged by PBS on a one year contract and was being paid €2,350 per month.

This is not the first time that a TVM program was stopped after a few episodes. Last year another program, Balbuljata, was scrapped after just two weeks.
