Maltese photographer Matthew Farrugia has recently placed third in the ‘Wreck – Underwater Photography’ category with his entry ‘Tug 2’ at the Eilat Red Sea underwater photography contest, is known worldwide as the ‘International Underwater Photography Olympics’.

He was also nominated in two other categories: ‘The UW Wide Angle Category’ and ‘The Dive Destination Category’. 

The competition has awarded photographers with prizes worth more than half a million dollars over the past years.

For the third year in a row the World Shoot-Out invited both amateur and professional photographers to take part in one of the most innovative, creative, international and festive UW events ever produced! The event took place worldwide and during the month of August, hundreds of underwater photographers from across the globe participated in this international competition. The award winning ceremony was held in Eilat Israel Red Sea.

The ‘Tug 2’ was scuttled in June 2013 off Exiles, Sliema to serve as a diving attraction. The vessel was sunk in a controlled operation onto the seabed 20 metres below the surface and some 250 metres away from the shoreline.

Matthew Farrugia is a multi disciplinary creative designer based in Malta. Matthew pursued his studies in the UK specialising in the Visual Communications division. He was awarded a first-degree honors and won several awards and honourable mentions. His recent quest took his photography to another level pursuing a distant dream and the love for the ocean, by specialising in underwater and water sports photography.
