Malta Independent Tuesday, 5 November 2013, 13:29 Last update: about 13 years ago

The famous Neapolitan folksinger Teresa De Sio and her quartet will be live in concert on Saturday, 9 November at 9pm at Sir Temi Zammit Hall, University of Malta Main Campus.

The university is offering this wonderful opportunity to the public to participate in a memorable evening as part of Discover University Open Week. Entrance is free of charge but reservations are to be made by sending an email to [email protected]

Teresa De Sio arrives in Malta following the 2013 summer tour with performances at the most important festivals in Italy and Europe. Teresa describes herself as a folk-singer and song writer, but she is also open to world music. She says that with folk music you learn to acknowledge the past while looking to the future. Her teachers, she says, were and still remain Domenico Modugno, Matteo Salvatore, the Cantori di Carpino, musicians who live music as an extension of their lives, champions of the oral tradition. In Acustica, the 90-minute programme includes songs and poetry readings that are intertwined with music to draw out sentiments of passion, energy and the power of rhythm.
