Fundación MAPFRE has launched the 2013 international Social Awards, which recognise individuals or institutions that have made an outstanding contribution for the benefit of society in the scientific, cultural and social aspects. The Fundación MAPFRE social awards are divided into 4 categories, with each prize amounting to Eur30,000. These awards are the José Manuel Martínez Award to a lifetime career, the award for best environmental management, the prize for the best act of solidarity and the prize for best action to prevent accidents and damage to health.

The José Manuel Martínez Martínez Award rewards a full professional career. This award, named in recognition of the President of Honor of MAPFRE, José Manuel Martínez Martínez, is aimed at acknowledging an older person over 70 with an exemplary professional career at the service of society and people.

The award for best environmental management aims to reward an institution which has carried out a project or action that contributes significantly to the preservation of the environment.

The prize for the best act of solidarity is intended to reward the merits of a person or entity who have performed relevant and effective action to improve the integration and quality of life of less privileged social groups, helping them to overcome physical, economic or social limitations.

 The Award to the Best Action in the Prevention of Accidents and Injury to Health aims at acknowledging the contribution of entities or people in the prevention of risks or accidents, including Road Safety and Health Promotion.
