Lino Grech, actor, writer and director, one of the most famous in the drama sector in Malta, died last night.

Grech, 83, will be remembered mostly for the drama F’Bahar Wiehed, which in the 1970s was a watershed production in the artistic world.

F'Bahar Wiehed was the first-ever television series in Maltese, running 30 episodes and was screened on TVM.

But Grech's work was not solely on TV. He directed plays at De Porres Theatre, the Catholic Institute and Politeatru.

Lino Grech was born in Sliema in 1930.

In a comment to the media, parliamentary secretary for culture Jose Herrera said that Malta today lost one of its pillars in the drama sector. “Lino Grech will remain in our hearts,” he said.
