Dare you post your wrath….it’s Christmas!
Come, sit with me. I need to sit down, as I have been decorating, and helping out in various little ways. This is what the Salott family do. Whilst some may argue that it is a community, and a virtual one at that, I say that is it real. As real as the money collected for various charities over the past year or so. As it is Christmas, most of us are busy baking, putting up a tree and doing our good deeds. Photos of these make their way to our Salott, on Facebook of course, with the most popular of late being the Nutella Brioche, and the twinkly light laden optic fibre trees. I decided I was not to be left out and set about baking the chocolate filled wreath. Sadly, I burnt it. Not to be discouraged, I brought out the can of festive gold spray (silver being so last year, darlings!) added some plastic mistletoe for good measure and nailed it to the wall. Needless to say, I shall not be posting photographs of my Nutella Brioche. Think of it as my good deed of the day. None of you will exclaim “Oh no, not another photo!”
I could regale you with photographs of my tree but I shall be giving most of the presents -shoeboxes, wrapped in Christmas colours - to a Salott regular. She collects presents for an orphanage, and this is the second time in The Salott’s existence that it is being done. Should any of you wish to donate, pop into The Salott after our little chat, and help. We can never do too little.
Sallotians have done little deeds which have turned out to be hugely successful philanthropically. We have had bake sales, helped in a car boot sale, had a disco evening, ladies lunch, country walks - the list is a varied one. And all it takes is a willing heart, and an occasional homemade cake, jar of jam, or the donation of a few euros. We are often asked to help out, and our Administrators - Moira and Francesca - are quick to urge us to share the good words and deeds. Donations of time and goodies have helped so many other organisations too. This makes Facebook a very useful tool and The Salott a great place to ask. If you are asking, there’s a drive to raise funds for L-Istrina this year. To quote a popular UK store, ‘Every little helps!’ It’s so easy too- just Facebook, no calls. Do we ever have a fight on the Salott you may ask? Or is it all sweetness and light? As I mentioned earlier, there seem to be Christmas lights a-plenty, but give us a full moon and many begin to howl. Opinions are bandied about, tempers flare, words are written in haste, private messages are received, forcing Administration to ban or block the offenders, and threads get longer and longer. Sometimes we lose sight of the original question posted. Which is why at the beginning of the page I ask you to ‘Come, sit with me’ - it can get awfully tiring at times.
But the will to do good prevails. This week Moira has asked us to change our profile picture to the one printed on this page. Whilst sowing support to allergy sufferers everywhere, being able to recognize this symbol could save a life. Allergies cannot always be seen, thus sufferers wear a wristband or bracelet with this symbol on it. These can be bought online via Amazon. You may wish to wear something more lasting, or elegant than a wristband. Should this be the case, ask your jeweller to engrave the symbol where it can be seen, and write the nature of your allergy next to it. I encourage you to go to The Salott, and follow the thread. Awareness must be spread, as it will save a sufferer a lot of pain.

A word from the Plumber!
OMG what a mess did we get ourselves into in posting the ‘spot the plumber’ challenge. Gordon the plumber seems to have had massive feedback from desperate housewives in serious need of plumbing. The only problem, it seems, is that not all genuine callers can find ways to describe their plumbing issues over a telly and he keeps getting requests to show up at their homes at odd hours of the day, and night I’m told. Nonetheless, the chase is still on and the first to post a photo of Gordon the plumber in The Salott will get free plumbing diagnostics for a year.
