This week in The Salott

 The King is dead….is he?

Come, sit with me. We all knew it was going to be one of those weeks when many said that we were going to have the most depressing day of the year. As usual, I decided to ignore that, as if we all believed what we read, and not only on Facebook, we would be in serious trouble. But depressing it was as tempers frayed and many argued. The Salott should be a place of discussion, but somehow fights erupt. Admins are not always called in, and threads get lengthy. Links are posted – some to prove points and others to diffuse what could be a particularly nasty situation.  But this is what our Virtual Room is about. Freedom of speech, just as long as it isn’t peppered with four letter words. Food doesn’t count as a four letter word, and that’s all done in The Kcina, now void of Christmas logs and filling up nicely with Soups and Salads. Which reminds me, I must stop sitting down, reading comments and get back to writing my book.  You never know who, in High Society, might buy it!

The post that reared its ugly head on Monday was one we have seen before. Marianne Mercieca asked if someone in the medical field could possibly confirm whether the article on an HPV vaccine is a scam or not.  I cannot for the life of me remember one doctor or gynaecologist who gave his input. Parents quibbled for and against. Accusations about doctors prescribing the vaccine for the money flew, and links were bandied about.  We did not read anything we have not read before in our Salott, but there was a very valid point put across by Audrey Komrij Jones, that Google links are worth nothing.  She posted a link about Elvis being alive (http://www.elvis-is-alive ) whilst I have not read it, I am quite sure The King is dead. Long live the king, and may his blue suede shoes never need cleaning. My point here, and a very valid one too, is to check the sources. Whilst Google is your friend, it, like some friends, will tell porkies.

After all the eating, drinking and merrymaking, health is now on the agenda.  Alexandra Ellul’s post was refreshingly new, and tinged with old. Old remedies but not tinged with Old Wives Tales. She asked if anybody (although she specified elderly persons) would be willing to talk about remedies used in the old days, before we could get anything we needed as a cure from a pharmacy of our choice.  The replies were very interesting and I am sure she and many of us in The Salott would appreciate your adding to the thread.  Who knows, we might even open another room The Spizerija, in the near future. Luckily, Moira and Francesca. Our wonderful Administrators, read this on a Sunday, over breakfast, so they will be too relaxed to react.  I live in hope.

Health also has a room in the ever growing Are You Being Served.  Visit the Rubs Health, Beauty and Fitness club.  The beauty part seems to come from being healthy. No one asks about nail or lipstick colour, or the latest trend in upstyles, so I do not visit it myself, but the many who do are kind enough to encourage each other, and give each other tips on exercise routines, and fitness in general. In these cold January days, it is well worth a visit. The encouragement from the Rubs family is contagious. Between you me and the newspaper print, I would rather catch a will to exercise than influenza.

So, I shall wander out of The Salott and into the Rubs Health, Beauty and Fitness Club. I really must get moving. With me it is all about awareness, Awareness brought about by Fleur Marie Cilia’s Buckett’s asking if our behinds hurt lots from sitting down in the Salott.  Yes, mine does. And so will yours if you don’t put your health first and get moving.
