Policemen who worked as waiters at government events in June last year have still not been paid for their services, Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi said in Parliament this evening.
Asked by the MP during parliament, Home Minister Manuel Mallia denied that the policemen who served at these functions had been ordered to do so. Only those who accepted a request were then detailed to work as waiters, he said. Policemen who refused to serve as waiters were not forced to do so.
The ministry had paid the force commercial rates for the services offered, which were lower than the quotations given by catering companies.
Dr Azzopardi said he was informed that, up to last week, the policemen had not yet been paid for the services.
